We knew backgammon was an ancient game, dating back some five thousand years to Mesopotamia. In the 1920s, Sir Leonard Woolley, a British archaeologist, excavated the Biblical home of Abraham. In the royal cemetery he found game boards bearing a resemblance to our backgammon boards of today. . . Roll the tape forward.
