It's the Bee's Knees . . .

It has been a long winter in New England. Although oomph has many exciting things on the horizon, we have been forced to be inside, huddled around the fire while the wind and snow blew by our windows. You will be delighted to know that we seized this opportunity and once again sacrificed our waistlines and livers to develop a new favorite oomphtini. You're welcome. IMG_6917 Our new favorite cocktail is the Bee's Knees. And, as with all things oomph - we have taken the liberty of making this cocktail another oomph "Classic with a Twist" . A little history lesson: The original Bee’s Knees cocktail is a gin, lemon and honey concoction that dates back to prohibition. (The phrase “bee’s knees” was prohibition-era slang for “the best.”) During Prohibition, the addition of ingredients such as lemon and honey were often used to cover the less than ideal smell and taste of bathtub gin. We must confess, the aroma is intoxicatingly delicious and it is hard to resist once that frosty glass is by your side. Our recipe calls for vodka.  (One of us may have had a run-in with gin in another life) This drink is perfection - not too sweet, not too tart and can be diluted a bit if you think you may need more than one. Most of the ingredients have health benefits as well! Our recipe follows. Shake one up as your next cocktail. We think we have created another winner.

RECIPE

  • 2 oz Tito's Vodka
  • Half a fresh Lemon, squeezed
  • 1 oz Honey-Water (recipe follows)
  • Garnish with a Lemon twist or Dried Lavender Blossom*
Add all ingredients to your shaker except for the garnish. Shake with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist. Honey-Water can be made by adding 2 T honey to 1 Cup Boiling water. (Add a 1/2 packet of Splenda if a sweeter flavor is desired.) *Available at Health Food Stores (See - I told you this was good for you.) 231719
